Day 1: Arrival in Ghana
On arrival at Kotoka International Airport your guide awaits you to take you to your hotel. Depending on the time of day, he goes through your itinerary with you, otherwise that will be scheduled first thing in the morning the other day. Overnight in Accra.
Day 2: Accra City Tour
This day you spend to explore the bristling world city that Accra obviously is. See Independence Square, National Museum, Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, Makola Market and the Arts Crafts Centre. Later in the afternoon a special naming ceremony will be held on your behalf. During this event you will meet a number of Ghanaian citizens and you will receive your African name, based on the day of the week on which you were born and your background. Day 3: A day with a Ghanaian Family
You will be introduced to a Ghanaian family and spend the day with them, participating in their daily routine and activities. You will never be any closer to Africa than you will today. Overnight in Accra.
Day 4: Transfer to Mampong
You travel to Mampong. On the way you stop over at Odumasi. This town is famous because of its handmade and very colorful beads. At the spot you attend a workshop. We also stop over for some sightseeing at the Boti Falls. Overnight in Mampong.
Day 5: Bunso Arboretum
Today you visit the Bunso Arboretum, a botanical garden, collecting each and every indigenous species of plants in Ghana. Later on you continue your trip, heading for Kumasi. Overnight in Kumasi.
Day 6: Excursions in Kumasi
Kumasi is the former capital of the once so mighty Ashanti kingdom during the pre-colonial era from 1701 - 1896 and your visit to Ghana wouldn’t be complete without acquainting yourself with their history and culture.
You visit the National Cultural Centre with the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum, the Okomfo Anokye Sword Site en het Manhyia Palace Museum, all sites connected with the amazing history of the Ashanti. Next is a visit to Kejetia Market. In Kumasi arguably the biggest market in West Africa. Overnight in Kumasi.
Day 7: Excursions to handicraft villages
Around Kumasi are quite a number of villages, each specializing in a certain handicraft. The most interesting are Bonwire, where you will see the Kente weavers at work and Ntonso, where they stamp the famous Adinkra cloth. To wind up you pay a visit to the beautiful volcanic Lake Bosumtwi. Overnight in Kumasi.
Day 8: Transfer to Axim
You travel to Axim on the west coast. By the end of the day you can relax on one of Ghana’s beautiful, palm-lined beaches. Overnight in Axim.
Day 9: Excursion to Nzulezo
Today you visit Nzulezu, a stilt village in Lake Amansuri. You reach this village by a canoe trip through the wetlands which in itself already is a rare treat. Many visitors named this day the peak of their travel experience. Overnight in Axim.
Day 10: Transfer to Cape Coast
In the morning you travel to the Central Region. On the way you make a short stop at Sekondi to visit the old Fort Orange. In the afternoon you pay a visit to the infamous Elmina Castle, a slave fort of the Dutch built by the Portuguese in the 1482 and taken over by the Dutch in 1637. In the 17th and 18th century countless numbers of slaves have been shipped from there to America. Overnight in Anomabo.
Day 11: Excursion to Kakum National Forest
This day is spent visiting two of the more special locations of your trip. You start the day with a visit to Kakum National Park, about an hour’s drive north of Cape Coast. This park, containing one of the last stretches of tropical rainforest in Ghana, is especially renowned for its Canopy Walkway. This walkway is really a number of hanging bridges between the treetops. High up in the wood you walk from tree to tree. The spectacular views make this a special experience. On your way back you stop for lunch at Hans’ Cottage Botel. The main feature of this spot is a restaurant, built upon a platform in a pond, inhabited by a thriving group of crocodiles, a most special place for your lunch break indeed. Later on in the day you make it back to Accra. Overnight in Accra.
Day 12: Return flight
Spend the day on the beach or with last-minute shopping. Transfer to Kokota Airport, check-in for your flight back home.
